Hello Stan,
ReplyDeleteIt amazes me how we have such similar radio starting points. I too had a Remco Radiocraft Crystal set. I built a super long wire antenna for it and it worked great! Later, I attempted to build an audio amplifier from Morgan's 2nd electronics book but was unable to make it work (impedance matching problem which I didn't understand until MUCH later....). I graduated to a series of one tube homebrew receivers and then received a Monarch Ham-1 for XMAS (Iwanted a Collins!!) Thanks for the memory stirring!!

P.S. the Collins would have cost my dad 1/2 his annual income!!

Herb - I wonder how many Remco crystal sets were responsible for populating ham radio in the 1960s and 70s?
ReplyDeleteI think it must be legion. We can also thank Mr. Morgan for his very fine series of Boy Electronics books. I still read them!!
